Objectives
To provide you an opportunity to:
- Research a current topic in auditing addressed in a
case.
- Prepare a PowerPoint
presentation for a class presentation.
- Present a concise and complete analysis of the
case questions including background information on the case participants
(Companies and Individuals).
- Comprehensive cases:
35-40 minutes (1 in each class where assigned)
-
Auditing case: 30-35 minutes (3 per class)
Notes:
For ALL presentations, student and guest
speakers. NO LAPTOPS OPEN.
For the Knapp text cases:
- Look
up regulatory filings (AAER)
related to the case (if available).
- There is no requirement to also prepare a write-up of the
case for
separate grading. The grade will be based on the quality of the PPTs
and the class presentation using the
Grading rubric.
- Provide answers to the
case questions in you presentation. Review the class schedule.
Some cases have extra questions. Some cases have questions moved.
- Include a "what
surprised you" slide/section about the case.
- Don't forget the
"something" extra requirement. This can a similar type case with another
company, or anything you think is relevant that extends the case material
and presentation.
-
(this in not in the ENRON example)
For the Auditing Project:
- The deliverables for the Auditing
Project
will be identified in another document.
- There will be a written
deliverable for the Auditing Project.
For Both
- Incorporate / reference
applicable AU and PCAOB auditing standards where applicable for both your
team case and Audit Project.
- Identify the relevant
GAAP/GAAS for the significant account (s) that was (were) manipulated.
- When preparing your
presentation timing make sure each team member spends approximately the same
amount of time individually discussing portions of the case or the case
questions.
-
All team members should participate in answering the classes' questions.
- It's nice to transition
between presenters by announcing who is speaking next.
Deliverables
- Upload the full PPT
file for the Case or Audit Project to the Assignment Tab. This will allow me to grade the assignment
in Canvas. Only one team member needs to upload the file.
- I would also like the .PPT
file sent directly to jeff.payne@uky.edu
before class so I can print it out to use as a reference during your
presentation.
- I will need this by 9:00 am on the day of your
presentation.
- A .pdf version of the
presentation (3 or 6 slides to a page) should be uploaded to the Discussions
Tab in Canvas.
Professional attire
- I expect business casual attire for the presentations. No jeans,
sweatshirts, hoodies... Wear what you would to a "meet the firm" night.
File format
- Name your files Team x - Case x.x - Case
