Eco 477, Labor Economics

This course uses economic analysis to understand labor markets. Students will be introduced to major labor market indicators and develop the tools of economic analysis of labor demand decisions by profit-maximizing firms and labor supply decisions by rational workers. Using these tools students will examine labor market structures and both existing and potential government policies which determine wages, earnings, employment, hours worked. Students will also examine the relationship between the labor market and investments in physical and human capital.

Eco 610, Managerial Economics

This course applies economic theory to managerial decision making and analysis.  It employs many of the traditional tools of microeconomics and shows how they can be used to evaluate practical business problems.  Particular attention is paid to the strategy of firms in the marketplace.  ECO 610 is a core course in the MBA program and is intended to help students understand basic economic concepts that underlie the business process modules and advanced learning bundles later in the program.

One of the main tasks of any manager is ensuring they are running an efficiently performing organization. A large determinant of the performance of any organization is the structure of the organization as well as the skills, incentives, motivation and interactions of the people who work in the organization. The goal of this course is to provide you with a rigorous framework, as well as analytic tools, to assess the effectiveness of the managerial practices in your organization. This framework and tools will allow you to create a more effective organization while also designing a workplace that is more motivating.
